Barons Shooting Warm-Up Drill

Setup:

  • Four lines of players positioned at the blue lines.

  • Pucks at all lines.


Drill Description:

  1. X1 and O1 start skating backward at the same time.

  2. They play give-and-go with the next player in line (X2 and O2) , then pivot to skate forwards with the puck around the center circle back toward their original end.

  3. O1 passes the puck to O3, who is positioned at the opposite blue line.

  4. O3 quickly passes the puck down the boards to X2 in X1’s original line, and X2 passes it to X1 who has looped around.

  5. X1 receives the puck and takes a shot on net.


At the same time:

  1. X1 passes the puck to X3, who is positioned at the opposite blue line.

  2. X3 quickly passes the puck down the boards to O2 in O1’s original line, and O2 passes it to O1 who has looped around.

  3. O1 receives the puck and takes a shot on net.


Repeat on the opposite side.



Key Points:

  • Keep head up through middle of the ice

  • Crisp, accurate passes.

  • Timing and awareness to maintain flow.

  • Focus on explosive transitions and smooth puck control.

  • Maintain good shooting mechanics and shot selection.

  • Shots ON NET.


Progressions:

  • Add a coach or defender to pressure zone entry.

  • Use a tire (or other object) to encourage the shooter to change the angle of their shot.
